PRESS: Apple TV+ to start working on Fri without Russian dubbing

MOSCOW, Oct 28 (PRIME) -- Video service Apple TV+, which will be globally launched on Friday, will not have a Russian-language dubbing and will have only local subtitles, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday, citing several sources.

Apple TV+ is positioned as a service with fully original content, will work on subscription without commercials and will be launched in 100 countries at the same time. It will be available in application Apple TV on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch and Mac for free during a year for new buyers of such devices or for 199 rubles per month.

A single price for the whole content in Russia are set by online cinemas ivi at 399 rubles, tvzavr at 349 rubles, and Premier at 129 rubles. Subscription at Amediateka varies from 599 rubles per month to 4,999 rubles per year. At Okko, prices depend on content from 99 rubles to 599 rubles per month, and at Megogo from 197 rubles to 597 rubles.

Head of the TV and content department at J’son & Partners Consulting Dmitry Kolesov said that Apple TV+ in Russia will become a “very niche” product and would hardly win a huge share of the market because of a lack “of relevant content for the Russian user.”

Megogo General Director in Russia Viktor Chekanov said that Apple, like Netflix, does not probably count on a big flow of Russian-speaking audience at the first stage, while Russian users find important dubbing and local content.
